Majolica Majorca Shadow Customize: GR 162 Blue Vacation and PK 421 Lady

I love the soft, buttery formula of Majolica Majorca’s eyeshadows. I also love a bright splash of color on my otherwise sensible work makeup. So when I had the chance, I snapped up the pastel green Blue Vacation, and hot-pink pastel Lady.

The other colors in the Shadow Customize line are mostly neutral, everyday colors. The exception being my two colors, and also the pinkish-red RD 422 and bright yellow YE 232.

The backs of the plastic cases have a little hole, to help with pushing the eyeshadow out and placing it into a palette.

The drawer slides open and close with a satisfying click.

This photo shows the colors as true-to-life as I can get them. Also, aren’t they tiny?

GR 162 – Blue Vacation

I messed up the application of Blue Vacation – you can clearly see an empty patch in the middle of my eyelid. I’ll fix the photo… eventually. ¬_¬

GR 162 is called 青いバカンス in Japanese. This translates as, uh, either Blue Vacation or Green Vacation. Majolica Majorca’s official name for it is Blue Vacation.

A tangent: The modern usage of 青い usually refers to the color blue, but was previously used for both blue and green. And really, GR 162 looks green, and GR = Green, right?

If you find this interesting, you may like Wikipedia’s article on the distinction of blue and green in various languages. There was also a Radiolab podcast episode on “Why isn’t the sky blue?”, and Business Insider adds to the episode’s content with their article No one could see the color blue until modern times.

PK421 – Lady

I love PK421 Lady. It’s a brilliant, grown-up version of hot pink, and insanely pigmented for an Asian eyeshadow. Just brushing it with a eyeshadow brush picks up lots of beautiful pink shadow.

That said, it’s incredibly easy to overdo this color for everyday wear in Asia … so for a sheer application, I’d advise to apply it with a light hand.

Packaging

Cute, functional package. The entire package is made of plastic. It’s nice that Majolica Majorca includes a hole at the back, so that it’s easy to depot the eyeshadow.

Note that it is made of plastic, so you will need a metal sticker to use it in a magnetic palette. You could also buy one of the empty Customize palettes, but I do not recommend this. The Customize palettes are tiny – you can only fit two eyeshadows, and one blush (a different product, twice the size of the eyeshadows). Personally, I love the drawer packaging, and am unlikely to depot it.

Formula

A single swipe with the eyeshadow results in a sheer, wearable color. It has more color payoff than the average Asian eyeshadow, but is nowhere near bold, American-style(?) eyeshadow. Primer results in a bolder color, of course.

They’re both buttery-soft and blendable, but the pink eyeshadow seems to have a slightly better formula. The pink is slightly more blendable. Both are slightly frosted, almost matte.

Staying Power

Amazing! (That said, I always use primer with my eyeshadows.) It lasts all through my 8-hour workday, and longer! I didn’t observe any smearing, melting, or muddying during the day. I’m happy with the staying power.
